Mental Performance Coaching for Athletes
Your mind is trained differently than everyone else's body.
You've trained your body until pain doesn't mean anything anymore.
Nobody trained your mind for the rest of it.
The tunnel before you walk out. The mistake everyone saw and won't stop talking about. The quiet after a loss that follows you home and sits at your kitchen table. The comeback that's taking longer than anyone will admit out loud. The version of you that shows up when the uniform comes off, and the people who love you have to live with whoever that is.
You already know how to push through pain. This is the part nobody trained you for.
What We Work On
(Athlete Mental Performance Coaching)
Performance anxiety and pressure that shows up right when it matters most
Rebuilding confidence after a slump, a loss, or a public mistake
Mental prep and recovery around injury, surgery, and comeback
The identity shift around retirement, a trade, free agency, graduating out of a college program, or any career or competitive transition
Sleep, focus, and recovery patterns that stall out under a heavy schedule
How the pressure of the game affects your marriage, your parenting, your relationships at home
Who you are when the uniform comes off
The mental side of the game that never makes it into the press conference
This Isn't Just About Game Day
Most performance coaching stops at the field, the court, the pool, the platform. Mine doesn't. What happens in training and competition is connected to what happens at home... in your relationships, your identity, the parts of you that don't get a jersey. If you're carrying pressure at home, it shows up in your performance. If competition is consuming you, it shows up at home. I work with both sides, because they were never actually separate.
About Abbey
I grew up a competitive swimmer. That's where it started. Somewhere along the way came marathons and a half Ironman. Then I became a therapist... and it was after that when CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, paddleboard racing (both prone and SUP), and ocean swim races entered the picture. I've always loved the long distance, endurance side of things.
Those two paths never ran separately. They shaped each other. The tools I was learning as a therapist changed how I performed... and what I was living through as an athlete changed how I understood the mind under pressure. I know what it's like to stand on a start line with your stomach in knots. I know what a taper does to your head. I know what it feels like to come back from an injury and not trust your body the same way again.
I've been a therapist for over 16 years, and I've spent that same stretch doing this kind of subconscious change work, coaching clients across the country and around the world.
I've worked with athletes across football, baseball, basketball, swimming, soccer, weightlifting, and beyond. Different sports, same underlying wiring.
How Subconscious Coaching Works for Athletes
This isn't sports psychology in the traditional sense. It's not just visualization scripts and breathing exercises. We go underneath the conscious mind, to where the actual patterns live... using hypnosis, tapping (EFT), NLP, and body-based tools to shift things at the root instead of managing them on the surface.
Sessions are confidential, virtual, and built around your schedule. No team involvement unless you want it there.
The Grind Looks Different by Sport...
The Work Doesn't
Mental performance coaching for NFL players Trades. A season that ends careers without warning. Every mistake replayed on a screen for the whole country. Football doesn't give you time to process any of it before the next snap. This is where that processing actually happens.
Mental performance coaching for NBA players Eighty-two games. Constant visibility. A bad shooting night that follows you onto every timeline before you've even showered. Basketball punishes you for carrying yesterday into tonight. This is how you stop carrying it.
Mental performance coaching for MLB players A slump doesn't ask permission and it doesn't end on your schedule. Baseball is a long season built to expose whatever's cracking underneath. This is where the crack gets addressed, not just managed for one more at-bat.
Mental performance coaching for soccer players Ninety minutes of individual pressure inside a team result you don't fully control. One mistake, one missed mark, and it's on you in a way the scoreboard never explains. This is how you carry that weight without it living in your body.
Mental performance coaching for swimmers and endurance athletes This is home turf for me. Marathons, a half Ironman, ocean swims, endurance paddleboard racing. The mental grind of a sport where there's nowhere to hide and no one to blame but the version of you that showed up that day. I know it because I've lived it, not just studied it.
Mental performance coaching for weightlifters and CrossFit athletes Performance under a clock, in front of a crowd, with your body on full display. Strength sports carry a specific kind of pressure most outsiders don't see. I train in this world, so I'm not guessing at what it takes.
Mental performance coaching for college athletes and competitive amateurs You don't have to go pro for this pressure to be real. A scholarship on the line, a roster spot that isn't guaranteed, a training block that's eating your whole life while everyone around you is just living theirs. Same wiring, same stakes to you, whether anyone outside your sport ever hears your name.</mark>
This isn't traditional sports psychology. It's not a breathing script or a visualization worksheet. It's hypnosis, EFT, NLP, and somatic work, aimed at what's actually running underneath performance... and underneath the rest of your life too.
