The Battle Beneath the Holiday Magic

There’s a quiet battle many of us feel this time of year… the tug-of-war between wanting to make the holidays magical and wanting to stay sane, grounded, and aligned with what actually matters.

It’s not just about the gifts.

It’s about the endless events, light trails, Santa breakfasts, and holiday parties — all of which sound so fun in theory. And they can be! But too many of them leave us drained, overstimulated, and sometimes even broke before the new year even begins.

We want to support small businesses, to show up for friends, to make memories. Yet the truth is — in this season of life, our capacity isn’t what it once was. That “one night out” that used to be no big deal might now take two days to recover from. And that’s not weakness… that’s reality.

I’ve been sitting in this tension lately…. wanting to give my daughter a magical childhood while also not burning myself out in the process.

Then there’s the deeper battle … the one around giving.

My love language has always been gift-giving. There’s something about beautifully wrapped presents under a tree that stirs up my own childhood memories …. the anticipation, the sparkle, the joy.

It was never truly about the gifts themselves, I know that. But my subconscious remembers them as the symbols of love, joy, and connection. And so every year, when I tell myself, “This year I’ll simplify,” another whisper rises…

Will what I give be enough?
Will it make them feel as loved as I want them to?

The conscious part of me knows the answer. The real magic isn’t in the gifts. It’s in our presence in the way we slow down enough to actually experience the moments we’re creating.

But that whisper… it’s powerful. It’s the echo of an old story.

This is where my own inner work comes in … the subconscious work I talk about so often. Because no matter how much our conscious minds know, our subconscious runs the show. It stores every memory, every belief, every emotional association we’ve ever had about what love, joy, and success “should” look like.

When I work on rewiring that whisper - the one that says, “you need to do more, buy more, give more” - the battle quiets. My nervous system settles. The magic becomes simpler, softer, truer.

It’s a process.

And if you’re feeling this same tug between joy and exhaustion, generosity and depletion, love and overextension, you’re not alone.

Maybe your battle looks different. Maybe it’s saying yes when you want to say no. Maybe it’s guilt about staying home instead of going out. Maybe it’s the pressure to make the holidays “perfect.”

Whatever it is… it’s worth looking at. Gently. Curiously. Without judgment.

Because the magic we’re chasing was never about more. It’s about meaning.
It’s about presence.
It’s about coming home — to ourselves, to each other, and to what really matters.

Do you feel this too? What’s the battle you find yourself in this season?

I’d love to hear. Send me a message - let’s keep this conversation real, tender, and true.
